At Verve Dental - Dentist Bentleigh we can show you how best to clean our teeth and gums?

Does time spent on brushing, the type of toothbrush or toothpaste that we use, flossing our teeth daily and using a mouthwash impact our oral health? At Verve Dental Dentist Bentleigh, we can assist you in the best way for keeping your teeth and gums healthy.

Mechanically removing plaque, food and bacteria is by far the most efficient way of preventing dental decay and gum disease. Chewing gum, rinsing with salt water or eating an apple does not clean your teeth as some people believe.

If teeth and gums are not cleaned then tooth decay and gum disease can follow.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare more than 50% of 6 year olds experience dental decay of their baby teeth. “By the age of 6 over half of all Australian children will be suffering from tooth decay. It’s also the most common reason for Australian pre-schoolers to be admitted to hospital.” (ADA) Dental decay is now one of the most common oral diseases seen in our society today and still it is on the rise. However, dental decay is preventable! Here’s how...

At Verve Dental - Dentist Bentleigh we stock many of the popular oral hygiene products

Brushing

Correct brushing, twice a day with a soft headed toothbrush and toothpaste helps to eliminate plaque, food and bacteria. Take your time and spend at least 2 minutes brushing the top, bottom, inside and outside of the teeth. Spit excess toothpaste out and do not rinse! The toothpaste helps protect the teeth. Toothbrushes should be changed every 3 months.

Toothpaste

Choose one with fluoride! The fluoride is what protects the teeth from dental decay. Children 6 and under should be using a low fluoride toothpaste.

Flossing

Should be done daily. For difficult to access areas there are flosses on a handle.

Mouthwash

Can be an addition to brushing and flossing, however generally not required if brushing and flossing correctly. Choose one which is alcohol free.

At Verve Dental in Bentleigh East, we have a full range of oral hygiene products to help improve the removal of plaque.
